Physical Education

The YMCA Youth Fitness Program assists our classroom teachers in providing a rich physical education program to all grades at Brentwood Science Magnet.

The goal of the program is to increase students awareness and enjoyment of physical activity and to prepare them for a lifetime of active, healthy living.  During class we introduce the students to the YMCA six pillars of character. The six pillars are: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.  They also teach them effective warm-ups, increase their flexibility and use a variety of games to cover the California State Standards.

This year students participated in many units including, fitness, frisbee, soccer, football, kickball, cooperative games, winter olympics and many more.  Throughout the program, we attempt to prepare students for the fifth grade state physical assessment  and this year we saw improvement in every tested area at BSME.  This unique partnership between the Collins & Katz Family YMCA and Brentwood Science Magnet has been very successful this year, and we hope to continue for years to come.
